Afraid of Heights
Day 476 - bank holiday funday with the little dude who started the day off well by letting me sleep until 9am (unheard of). He demanded pancakes so I obliged but it meant we didn't set off for Matlock and the Heights of Abraham until gone noon.
Why I thought going there on a bank holiday was a good idea, certainly felt like turning around and going straight home after an hour and 15 min of crawling through the town and battling to get a parking space. The poor Beast decided he'd had enough and gears got well and truly stuck causing a temporary road block that only cleared once I'd turned the bloody thing on and off, reversed a bit and general swore at it. (New van can't come soon enough!)
In the end I'm glad we'd preserved and spent a nice afternoon at the old Victorian riverside attraction, checked out some sights, a cavern, fossils and ate the obligatory ice cream cone.
My motherly strengths were tested on the cable car ride of doom up to the heights. I hate cable cars, all that swinging precariously in the wind attached to a thin bit of string. But the boys fear kicked in when the car stopped at the highest point so I had to put aside the utter terror I was feeling and made all calming stoopid statements of 'oo how nice it is up here/ isn't the view lovely/ oo look a Roo there's a castle'.
I didn't mean a word!
