Rebuilding

Just Before the Storm

I glanced at the sky this afternoon to see if it was worth getting the mower out. Storm clouds were gathering in the distance so, abandoning all thoughts of garden-tidying, I jumped in the car to look for today's photograph on the other side of town before the rain came.

Lord's Mill House sits beside a waterfall at the corner of Waterside and Bois Moor Road, on what has been the site of Chesham's principal manorial corn mill since Saxon times. The last one was built in the early 17th century and ceased milling in the 1950's. It was demolished in 1988.

I've driven past Lord's Mill House countless times over many years, but never stopped to take a picture before today. I'd just finished pressing the shutter release when the first fat raindrops began to fall.
