Rhizocarpon geographicum (Map Lichen)

This is the only lichen that I know the name of ! Many years ago as a geography student I spent time in Norway looking at glacier retreat & this little lichen is used as part of the dating process. This example is much closer to home & commonly found on the dry stone walls & is an indicator speciers for clean air. & its easy to see how it got its name!
