Cologne Cathedral

Building work on this massive cathedral started in 1248; it remained incomplete but functioning until the towers were completed in the 1860s.

It is the largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe. Its design was inspired by that of Amiens Cathedral in Picardy.

Cologne cathedral suffered bomb damage during World War II. However, unlike most of the city around it, it was not destroyed.

I probably didn't have the time to climb the 533 steps of the south tower.
