The only Humphrey I have left
I cannot believe I am writing this but Humphrey has had to be put to sleep.
He'd been off his food about a week (still eating a bit though). He'd been to see 2 vets and both had said he seemed ok and thought he had an infection as all the signs pointed that way so he was put on antibiotics and pain relief.
Over the past 18 hours after he left the vets he just couldn't seem to breathe properly. We hoped the antibiotics would kick in but they didn't.
He had a lovely last night in my brothers room (Humphrey was technically his) and when we all got up he was in bed with Alex. But his breathing was worse so we rushed him to the vets.
The vet couldn't find anything at first but gave him some gas and found his oesophagus, mouth, and tongue were all severely swollen (you couldn't tell properly from the outside). Also his genitals were swollen. This all pointed to myxomatosis.
Humphrey was vaccinated but the symptoms that showed myxi only showed when it was too late :(.
The kindest thing was to put him to sleep but that doesn't make it any easier.
We'll always love you Humphrey Bogart. Go find Benji and cause a riot at rainbow bridge xx
