Lighting the Paschal Candle
On a glorious Spring evening, not really dark enough for the drama but wonderfully not raining or blowing a gale, the New Fire is lit and from its flames the Paschal Candle. Holy Trinity Dunoon is blessed with spacious grounds and plenty of material for bonfire-building, and seems also to benefit from a supply of pyromaniacs ...
After this, we processed back into the dark church proclaiming "The light of Christ". I sang the Exultet - surely at once the most terrifying and the most wonderful of all tasks for a church musician - and as the lights came on Mr B let rip with an amazing fanfare on the organ and the Resurrection was on us.
The service lasted the best part of 2 hours; my candle lasted as well; it was glorious.
Alleluia!
