Waterwheel

Today I looked at the changing face of Aberdeen,

The Waterwheel Inn was a hotel and restaurant located on the North Deeside road between Milltimber and Bieldside to the West of the City Centre of Aberdeen.

The original building dates back to 17th Century when it was used as a Corn Watermill. More recently it was a hotel with approx 20 rooms and a few bar’s and restaurant areas.

The Hotel known as the “Waterwheel Inn” closed as a part of the Aberdeen bypass plans. The bypass was then rerouted and planning permission was applied for and granted for several echo friendly homes to be built.

This involves the removal of modern non-original extensions and, the conversion of the original mill structure to five flats. And power to be sourced from the water wheel (seen in the picture), with water from the Murtle Burn as it did when the Mill in the 17th-century operated as a corn mil called Mill of Murtle. Now a C listed building (the original part, which is all that is left in the picture).

The modern Hotel parts having all been demolished this month.

Twenty-one further houses will be built around the converted Old Mill structure
