The (Real) West Wing
(Best BIG btw)
Up early (but not too tired) and onto the Metro down to the White House for our 9am tour. Alas nothing is ever too easy in our little world, so we ended up waiting outside for about 30 minutes whilst the Secret Service took our passports and checked our credentials! Eventually, after much umming and erring, they found a list with our name on and let us in. You aren't allowed around all of it, but see sufficient to say "WOW" at regular intervals, and given that we're huge fans of both a certain Mr Obama and The West Wing TV show it was superb. We even saw the President's pooch Bo being walked past us!!!
From there back to the hotel to collect the camera (we couldn't take ANYTHING into the WH), and then back down to the same location to take pics and then start our walk to Congress along Pennsylvania Avenue, stopping for lunch in the Food Court of the Reagan Centre (BIG butty for me, soup for a cold Mrs DP).
Carried on past the FBI Building before arriving at the Capitol Building, home of the Senate and Congress, for another tour. It was excellent and informative and we were there for a good 2 hours.
Back to the hotel where we're now sat in the lobby drinking complimentary hot cider (with bourbon!) and eating nibbles. It's a 5* on TripAdvisor already - a great place to stay. Oh and we're watching the TV where they're warning of record snowfalls tomorrow - over 12" expected, which could be interesting.....
