Stop the Clock

Strong Legs!

It has seemed for the past few days that today's weather was likely to be very good. Nik is training for Maggies Bike & Hike which is a fortnight away so I thought we could have a family effort to help with his training and introduce the kids to hill walking at the same time. I knew the bigger two would be fine and we took the backpack carrier for Hugh (age 2 and a half) and a mountain of Haribo to tackle Meall a' Bhuachaille in the Cairngorms. It was a five and a half mile circuit but at 810m it is a proper hill of Corbett proportions. Hugh was a totally duggit star and refused to be carried, climbing all the way to the top under his own steam, and down the other side. At Ryvoan bothy, with just the flat two-mile walk out to go, we forced him into the carrier (bribed with more Haribo) as he was so tired he could hardly stand. They'll sleep tonight! Thanks to the many friendly fellow walkers who stopped to chat and encourage the kids along the way.
