4th September 1964 - official opening of the Forth Rd Bridge. Our parents walked us across on the day or soon after. (Oddly, my first memory of the bridge is of noticing from the ferry that the final road section was still to go in. How had nothing come to my attention in all the previous years I'd been crossing the Firth by train and ferry?)

4th September 2014 - 50th anniversary of the opening. Parents still here - aim to cross it again.

18th September 2014 - Referendum on Scottish Independence. 5 months to go.

The St Andrew's crosses created by the bridge against today's brilliant sky seem appropriate.
