People on a Bridge

Forever Curious

Today we attended the funeral of Paw Paw Bob, HD's grandfather. He died while we were at a conference in Baltimore. He was 85, and his body gave out, bit by bit, as he helplessly watched.

HD (the oldest grandson) and the oldest granddaughter Jena delivered a beautiful eulogy, full of pictures, stories, and loving humor. The celebration of Bob's life lasted about 12 hours, between the open-casket visitation at the funeral home (which is something I can do without, the open casket part), the mass, the eulogy, and the party afterwards. At the end of the day, everyone was exhausted. After we left the house where the party took place (where Paw Paw Bob and Nettie used to live before the hurricane Katrina destroyed their hometown; now, renovated, Jena's home), apparently tempers flared, and some folks got into a fight... All in all, a long and trying day. I have known Bob ever since HD and I started dating, so almost 16 years now. While we were never particularly close, I am well aware of his importance in HD's life when he was a child. I hope he was proud of HD for all of his amazing achievements, and knew that he helped along the way.

Here is little Logan, the youngest grandson, attempting to peak into the afterlife.
