Dragon Boat racing
Day 3 and the kids voted to do something that Freya and Tom could join in with - Dragon Boat racing. But they would have to walk there, and not the easy direct routes - but over Walla Crag to get some height and views. We had a lovely picnic and then off they went, trying to break the record for racing between the posts on Derwentwater. Lots of fun and splashing later, they missed the record of 1 minute eight seconds by just 4 seconds. But as they know from rowing, 4 seconds is a lot, and can be the difference between gold and 'also ran'. They were disgruntled to find that the record was held not by some kind of sports club, but by Keswick Theatre Group! Afterwards five of them took a run along the jetty and jumped into the freezing water.
Afterwards Mark had them jog back over Walla Crag again before beautifying themselves for the meal out on our final evening.
