It's about the money

Holidays are less about the meaning and more about the money these days. Sales, sales, sales. Get out and travel, Spend, spend, spend. Buy, buy, buy. With a bit of lip service to the reason for the holiday and relaxing day(s) off work.

I think our founding fathers would overall be happy with the results of their experiment, their Declaration of Independence and Consitution and what it's done for our society. There are many things they'd be shocked and horrified about, mostly due to cultural and social changes occurring since 1776. We Americans do tend to take a lot of our freedoms and opportunities for granted, however, forgetting or trivializing the dedication and cost paid by those "rebels" way back then and by those who have defended it since.

This is a sheet of uncut $1 bills my father got for me at the Federal Reserve on one of his trips to Washington, D.C. when he was still in the Air Force. The issue year is the year I graduated High School.

It's supposed to be 101 degrees today. We'll go out tonight and walk the neighborhood to see the local celebrations. No travelling to the big show in town. I have an outdoor art show tomorrow and it's supposed to be 105.
