The 1 in 12 Club
Mr. John introduced me to this lovely street on our trip to Bradford the other week. I have to admit to salivating at its dystopian delights! When I chanced to have to go into the city this afternoon I couldn't resist revisiting. The 1 in 12 Club has a very fascinating history. I'm finding Bradford to be full of surprises. It's a photographer's paradise. It was a real shame then that it had to be such a flying visit today. And to think I used to come here two or three times a week and the walk/run between the station and the office barely ever registered on my consciousness. I feel ashamed of myself.
I almost ashamed to admit to the reason of my visit too. The stress of uncertainty around a number of projects combined with the long hours is turning my brain to mush! I left my wallet on the train this morning. I was in the office early, on my own, when my mobile rang - which was odd because basically nobody has my number! It turned out to be a lovely woman called Claire who had found the number of my phone on a scrap of paper - in my wallet.
I don't recall exactly why I made a note of the number like that but I'm sure glad I did. She found it on the train and decided to track me down instead of handing it in because she knew that process would be a pain. With it being a bank holiday tomorrow I would have been unlikely to have got it back until next week. And there's no food in the house! And both my lads are home - and completely broke!! So I averted disaster by going into Bradford to collect the lost item form the lovely Claire. If I'd been more with the plot I'd have got her some flowers but I offered to donate £10 to the charity of her choice - which was the NSPCC.
I've lost my wallet on numerous occasions but it's always come back to me somehow. The best was when I left it on the top of a mountain in Switzerland. It was found by a German climber who handed it in to the British Consulate when he got back home. They traced me and on receipt of the postage they sent it back to me. I've always had great faith in human nature and the generosity of the majority of people. That faith has never suffered too many dents in my life.
