Growing old disgracefully

By GOD

MORNING

Last day in the prairies. I wasn't in much of a photographic mood for the last week and many shots, like this one, were taken out of the car with my aye phone while on the move. I would not have taken any at all were it not for my commitment to blip. This was taken as I left Lake Manitou to drive to Calgary, the first leg of a 32 hour journey. I find visiting my prairie family tough and it gets tougher as I get older. There is not only the harsh physical experience, but also the unrelenting heartbreak of facing situations that I am powerless to improve.

However, this was also a week when I took delight in the extraordinary kindness of both friends and strangers, learned some new and shocking stuff about myself (e.g. I am not as tough as I thought) and saw my first turkey vulture. That last experience was the one I wished I'd brought along my DSLR to record.
