Defying Gravity

I can only guess the story of this amazing tree that is growing almost horizontally out of this steep slope.
I presume it was once blown over onto another tree and its roots re-established before the supporting tree fell leaving this incredulous scene.
It isn't easy to tell from the busy photo, but I can assure you the tree is definitely unsupported by the trees around it.
