1961 Mr South Australia Mike Bowden

Mike and I have known of each other for 50 years, yet we had never met before today. It is a month for reunions.

Mike came to SA as a very young man with the RAF, originally from Cornwall, and soon settled in Adelaide before taking a position as a PE teacher at a country high school at Whyalla. That was right after Mike won the Mr South Australia title in 1961. I came onto the local gym scene in 1962 when Mike was in the country. Our paths were not destined to meet at that time.

Later Mike studied Psychology and moved to Sydney. Today he was back in Adelaide with his wife visiting family here, hence our get-together over lunch at Zest Cafe at Glenelg.

Recently Mike tracked me down via the internet and so that is how we came to be in communication. It was great to finally meet and chat about all the guys we knew and trained with back in the good old days.
