Ducklings

Mama Mallard and her babies were enjoying a leisurely family swim this evening as the canal glowed with reflections of the early evening sun on the red brick buildings with their glittering white windows. The water was dancing from the ripples that lingered long after a boater's slow passage.

The scene was very peaceful so I stayed for a while. I watched as a grebe dove for his dinner while walkers and joggers enjoyed the footpath near the canal and cyclists pedaled by on the adjacent bike road.

I found this area by following the cycle route where it exits on the West side of Vondelpark. As the road is wide, smooth and free of automotive traffic, it is used by commuters on their city bikes and road bike enthusiasts alike. Not bad scenery for a commute or for some exercise!
