Dead As A Doornail

This owl has hooted its last hoot. Eaten its last mouse. Swooped its last swoop.

In Vermont, visiting youngest son Evan and his wife Chelsea, I did find myself wondering what on earth I was going to photograph today that would be "deader than a doornail". In conversation with Chelsea, she mentioned that her sister Molly is an amateur taxidermist, and lo and behold! When we called her, she said she did have the head of an owl, and the foot of a fisher cat to hand. Here is her owl head. A very dignified looking creature. I'm sorry it met its end, but glad that Molly found him by the side of the road, and preserved him so that he could enjoy his moment in the spotlight today!
