The call of duty......

A very happy and full day spent with a friend, steeped in history at Hampton Court Palace, learning more about Henry VIII and William III, and marvelling at the splendour and scale of this magnificent palace!

We were reminded that Henry and Katherine spent twenty plus happy years together before he felt justified in divorcing her because it was vital to have a male heir. So very sadly, five of their six children had died at birth or very soon afterwards. Duty was a calling above all others back then but they had loved well and Henry was shown to be less hasty in changing his wives than I had previously thought.

The weather has been perfect, the gardens so beautiful, and the company excellent! Just as holidays should be!
