New Year's Water Fight

I came back to Thailand in time to participate in the final two days of the yearly country-wide water fight. Thai New Year is celebrated by people going out by the tens of thousands, flooding the streets to spray each other with water. Some people go on foot while others pile in the back of trucks like this with giant tubs of water, prepared to splash anyone within reach.

Nowhere but inside is dry. If you're outside, anything electronic must be in a plastic bag. Only my camera phone, through a layer of plastic, made it out into the New Year festivities. I took this shot from the bus, but even as we drove along, people threw buckets of water and sprayed their squirt guns through the open windows. People on motorcycles and in tuk-tuks are even more of a target.

By the end of the day, well, actually just a few minutes after walking out my door, my friends and I were completely wet. We were armed though, so whoever sprayed us, got sprayed back. :)
