A bell is a cup until it is struck
Another holiday outing, this time to Threave Castle near Castle Douglas. The main aim of our visit was to see the ospreys, which have recently returned from West Africa. We only saw the female today, who is thought to have just laid her first egg. The male had flown off, perhaps to catch some fish for his lunch.
We rang the bell and took the little boat across to the island on which the castle sits. It's the former residence of Archibald the Grim.
Apart from the ospreys, of course, Birds of the Day today were the willow warblers, singing their little hearts out.
