A surprise from Kew!!

Robyn, Cleo and I went to Kew Gardens today for a little Easter week tripette. Robyn and I have been before, and the Royal Botanic gardens are especially beautiful this time of year, when the blossoms mingle with the fresh greens and golds of beautiful new foliage.
It took forever to get there as the traffic around leatherhead was absolute pants! It took us an hour to travel 0.9 miles, and in the end we turned back and went along the M25 / M3 which turned out to be a breeze should have gone that way at the beginning !
As you can expect I took loads of shots, especially from the amazing 'Tree top walkway' which allows you up into the canopy to see the tops of the trees and the Ring necked parakeets which are very common in this area. The walkway is quite high up, and it does sway about a bit which made Cleo very nervous!!
We enjoyed a piece of cake and drink in the company of a beautiful peacock, but he was really chilled and no amount of squawking by Robyn would convince him to display his stunning tail :-(.
On our way towards the gate to leave and go home I noticed this squash bug sitting on a leaf, at first I thought it was one of the common Dock bugs, but when I got home to look at the shots more closely I realised it was the much rarer Box bug Gonocerus acuteangulatus. Historically the Box bug was very rare with RDB1 status and found only on Box Hill in Surrey, however it is expanding it's range and can be found across the South East of England.
It is very similar to the commoner Dock bug Coreus marginatus ,( see November 10 th0 but can be distinguished by the narrower abdomen, more pointed extremities of the pronotum ( the would be thorax) and the lack of twin points between the antennae.
It is a new bug for me so I am really pleased!!!!
