Edinburgh

Well, today I woke up in Scotland. Edinburgh to be more precise, and I honesty felt like I had travelled back to medieval times! I have never see a city that is so entirely OLD. Everything is made of stone, and buildings and exquisite detail and gothic appearances. It is truly amazing. I treated myself to a hot breakfast and a gazillion litres of coffee before embarking on a well reviewed free tour. It did not disappoint. Out guide was a fantastic storyteller and within 2 1/2 hours I felt like I knew a great deal about Edinburgh's history and identity. I heard tales of William Wallace, Maggie Dickson, Deacon Brodie, Sir Walter Scott, Robbie Burns, Greyfriars Bobby and many more.

As a bonus, we also were shown where JK Rowling sat way back when she was poor and unpublished and wrote the first two Harry Potter books. We even visited the grave of Thomas Riddell (HP fans will know this is awesome!).

After the tour I check in to my hostel, had a shower then headed back to The Elephant House cafe (the JK Rowling one!). It is super nerdy, but I just had to sit and have coffee there! So I did. It was fantastic coffee too. I enjoyed a (very) late lunch then headed to The Last Drop, a pub recommended to me by friend, and had a pint.

Well, the drinking for the night had begun. Ryan, a friend from Melbourne happened to be travelling in Edinburgh too so we organised to go on an organised pub crawl. This included very cheap drinks and free shots in most places. We had a fun night getting to know the other participants and drinking whisky in pubs all over town!
