Nadder Trees and Moonlit Reflection

First Blip with brand new Samyang 8mm full-frame fisheye, for DX 'cropped' D7000.

It arrived whilst I was out shooting the theatrical rehearsals and was left with a neighbour, who then promptly stayed out for the entire rest of the day! So I didn't get my hands on it until early evening.

Not my best title, but it'll have to do, for now. It is, after all, the River Nadder, there are these lines of tall elegant trees, the moon is full and they are reflected!

Salisbury Cathedral Spire is just visible, its red light atop is easily seen reflected in the water. Stars too. Just over two minutes time exposure. Look in LARGE

I have wanted to try this scene for a good while. It needed a wider lens than a straight ultra-wide or superwide and needed the trees to be fairly bare. And a good full moon too. Unfortunately, last month's moon had this path, on the left, a quagmire of mud and fallen trees. The full moon before that and it was entirely under floodwater and definitely a no-go area, the land adjoining is bramble bushes and scrubby woodland and so is impassable.

LOTS of shadow extraction in the reflection and river areas. Unfortunately, the lens does not seem to have its own data in Photoshop's - or at least my CS5 - lens distortion filter bank but of course, pincushion/barrel etc is manually adjustable. The only adjustment I made here was a small added vignette.

The lens' sharpness is seriously impressive, from edge to edge and is impressively resistant to flare. I'm thoroughly impressed with this lens - it has some quirks but not necessarily bad ones and as far as value for money is concerned, then it is staggeringly good value, new being about 1/3 of the cost of the Nikon 10.5mm. The manual focus only is hardly a problem on a tripod, let alone at night.

Thanks to all who entered in the spirit of yesterday's Blip - thinking up a caption for the actress clutching at both her boobies and with an expression of extreme, well, extreme!! It's not really a competition but a few more suggestions would be fun....
