In The Occupied Territory

Fabulous places

Went to some fabulous places today, all in Northumbria.
First stop was this place in the photo; Barter Books.
It is an old railway station which has been converted into an amazing second hand bookshop. All sorts of everything in book form is sold here. Rare first editions to comic book annuals.
The old fire places in the waiting rooms are still in place and being used. The waiting room is the cafe.
The owners of the place are the people responsible for the infuriating " Keep calm !" Etc . Posters, cups and things. They discovered an original wartime " Keep calm and carry on." poster when the bought the station., and from there there world wide craze started.
I bought Bill Bryson's Shakespeare and New York, an illustrated history. Companion tome to the PBS TV series, which I haven't seen, but will catch it You Tube.
June purchased 1935 Mrs Beaton cookbook and a 1950 Mrs Beaton cookbook.

We then drove over to Amble and stopped at Artiqu, which is an antique/art/craft store, where I bought a velvet, brown, pin-striped jacket.

Our final stop was, by contrast, Ikea to get candles etc.
Now home for a late pasta dinner.
