Bay tree

Because I helped my neighbour Gill to pack up her house when she moved down to live with her daughter, her two daughters gave me a thank you present - a lovely bay tree.

I have it in my conservatory-type extension and in the last 2 months it has grown lots of new leaves. I love it but am scared to put it outside even yet as my garden is not very sheltered.
Anyone know how to keep it healthy - should I feed it? Should I prune it? and if so when? Can it live outside in the summer (afraid the wind might blow it over.) It is welcome to live in the extension but don't want to restrict its life!!
