life begins at...

I say thank you for the music

Today I met Andy Lowndes from Playlist for Life, www.playlistforlife.org.uk a charity that connects people and memories through personally meaningful music.

It is believed that people with dementia through frequent access to music in which their past experience and memories are embedded can improve their present mood, awareness & ability to understand & think their sense of ID + independence

This picture is a video of Harry (with his wife Margaret) who has positively responded to the music. It really is very beautiful.

Being able to respond to music - the first sense in the foetus and the last to go at death – is the one thing dementia cannot destroy.

The charity was set up in 2013 by Broadcaster & Writer Sally Magnusson whose own mum suffered this cruel disease. In 2013 it was estimated that 44m globally suffer from dementia – however by 2050 this is more likely to be 135m

They encourage people to create a playlist of uniquely meaningful songs – if I were to create my top 5 it would be

Lou Reed - Pale Blue Eyes
Rod Stewart – You’re in my heart
The Smith – Light that never goes out
Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees
Stone Roses – I wanna be adored

What would your top 5 playlist be?
