Another photo of a screen image and this is a family photo. I am surprised how good the photo appears regards patterns off the screen. I have tinted the photo slightly as well before uploading it to try to make some of the detail clearer to see.
The building is perhaps the Esk Lyceum in South East Queensland that sadly burned down in 2010. I am sad of course to think it is the Esk Lyceum.
Here is a link to view the Esk Lyceum Hall before its destruction.
The gentleman standing alone on the left hand side looking in the direction of the photographer is my father's brother. He may have frozen to stand still for no reason other than acknowledgement a photo is being taken.
I don't know what year. The hall was built in 1909 if it is the Esk Lyceum. My uncle and his brother, sister and parents arrived in Queensland in 1922. I can't tell whether the setting is in the 30s or the 40s from the appearance of my uncle.
My uncle might be a member of the audience. The family was however intrinsically involved in musical entertainment of one sort as amateurs singing with the Bach Society they helped establish in Brisbane. They acted in theatre and I have evidence they sang on radio from time to time. The occasion might be a local concert. Perhaps the local excitement of a visiting performance. Maybe a wedding reception in the hall that my uncle was engaged to sing at.
I wonder if there were movies shown in the hall.
