Darkness and light.
Just one of those mornings, you stand with your face turned to the sun and close your eyes. I can feel the warm soak into my skin. The chilly breeze reminding me that it's not summer yet. The soft air that floats along by the river has tones of budding tree and shrub to it, delicate transient fragrance that bewitches you and then is gone.
Pedalling slowly along the tow path, drifting through the darkness and light made new by sprouting leaves, the common is quiet. I stop under the eaves of a horse chestnut and reach up to touch an unfolding leaf, its soft skin a joy. I plonked myself down into the grass, slipped my shoes off, wriggled my toes in the dewy grass and smiled a child like smile.
Mmmm....looks like it might be a nice day!
