Detail from the Old Caley Picture House

Built in 1923, the Caley was first a cinema as the Caley Picture House and then a concert hall as the Caley Palais in the 70s and 80s. In the 90's, the venue became a nightclub before reverting to a concert hall in 2008. It was briefly know as the HMV Picture House, and a lot of the original art deco interior was restored, and had a capacity of 3000. With HMV suffering financial issues during the recent recession., the venue reverted to its original name of Caley Picture House

The venue was closed in December 2013, having been taken over by J. D. Weatherspoons. As a result all concerts scheduled for 2014 have been cancelled. Weatherspoon's want to turn the venue in to a super pub, and there is little prospect of use as a live music venue.
