Geltsdale bird walk
Today Brian and I did the pre-walk of the route for the 10 mile Geltsdale bird walk for the festival. Our bird expert was too poorly to come along. The walk, from Halton Lea Gate, via Tindale village, around Tindale Tarn and back, is mainly on a hard path, laid where the railway used to run. The wind was strong and gusty - really no self respecting bird was going to attempt to fly!
Arth objected of course, but is not too bad tonight.
We went back to Brian and Jean's new house and were joined later by 3 others for a delicious meal.
This image is not atypical of the area. Lime kilns like these come in various sizes. They show that limestone is nearby and there would be a ready supply of coal to fire the furnace where the limestone was burned. Lime, to sweeten the soil, emerged at the bottom.
Can't tell you how tired I am tonight............. night, night.
