Grumpy Old Man

Beautiful freebie!

Dinner was just about on the table this evening when I realised that I hadn't Blipped! I'd been waiting for better weather, but it's been raining again for a lot of the day. So I rushed out of the house and this is the result!

I bought this 'chimney' some years ago and installed some exotic tree fern therein. The fern died in the first winter and the next incumbent was an old Elizabethan pink called, not surprisingly, Dianthus 'Elizabethan'. Then last year this seedling Geranium palmatum blew in, not from its native Madeira, but from somewhere else in the garden. They seed around here and there, usually finding a suitable spot such as a stone wall or the edge of a path. When I acquired the original plant it was as Geranium maderense, but that species is larger, more tender and has red flushed petioles, so G. palmatum I'm sure it is.
