Gnarled Shadows

It's a bright sunny morning at the moment casting strong shadows everywhere. To maximise this weather window I found an old gnarled stick and arranged some dried chillies to cast gnarled shadows. It fits with the Shakespeare challenge word: Gnarled.

Gnarled – we use this word as snarled or growled but it was used by Shakespeare as an adjective eg the gnarling wolves

Henry VI part 2
GLOUCESTER (speaking to King Henry)
Ah, thus King Henry throws away his crutch
Before his legs be firm to bear his body.
Thus is the shepherd beaten from thy side,
And wolves are gnarling who shall gnaw thee first.
Ah, that my fear were false; ah, that it were!
For, good King Henry, thy decay I fear.

I have a concert to sing later so must do a little bit more work on one of the pieces! the programme includes Rachmaninov Vespers (beautiful, hard and in RUSSIAN!) plus Pergolesi 'Stabat Mater'. This is with candlelight and Russian icons projected on the wall of St Peter's Church, Berkhamsted at 8pm if anyone is in the neighbourhood...
