A day of two halves
After breakfast we headed off the the other side of the dam for a wee bit off roading which was great. It is an amazing country with fabulous people who live a very hard life compared to ours.
We hit one bit of the track that was a bit of a challenge so I got out to direct Arnie over some pretty large rocks. One wrong move and I was on my behind with a very audible cracking sound! People just seem to arrive from nowhere and a little, slightly built lady put her arms under mine and within a few minutes I was in the car.
We had over five hours to drive to Maseru but we didn't have much of an option. We found a hospital, got X-rays done, broken in two places! Felt a lot better after the cast was put on but then came the next challenge, they had no crutches!
We got to our lodge to be presented with a long stepped entrance. With the guard from the gate on one side and Arnie on the other it was a slow and painful process. Then appeared Palesa, also slightly built, who basically put me on her back and got me on to my bed for the night. A little while later she reappeared with a pair of crutches that she had at home. I think she was my wee guardian angel as it would have been a miserable time getting back to the car.
It may not have been the best end to our wee adventure or Arnie's birthday but we will go back. Amazing country and amazing people!
What a plonker!
