Coffee in Nelson, Tea in Creston

An early morning
drive over the mountains and
back again once more!

We were up early and on the road to Nelson by 6 AM as we wanted to have breakfast there and do some shopping before lunch.

The drive from Creston to Nelson goes over a mountain range. The highway on this route is kept open over the winter months, much to my surprise. It is steep and winding. At this time of year the pavement is mostly bare and dry. The sides of the highway have mounds of snow leftover from the snow ploughs of the winter months.

Nelson is a lovely city. It has many heritage buildings remaining in its downtown core from the glory days of the silver rush. Some are brick. Some are stone. The city has a beautiful setting in the Selkirk Mountains beside Kootenay Lake. The main street (Baker Street) features many distinctive and unique shop fronts for sports equipment, toys, clothing, books, antiques, art work....

We had a quick and early lunch at a bakery and were back on the highway for the return trip to Creston. We had tickets for the Blossom Valley Choir's performance at 2:30 PM and did not want to be late.

The choir had a two hour programme including tea at intermission. The male members of the choir donned very fetching aprons to serve tea, coffee and goodies. Each table had a center decoration provided by a member of the choir. Our group sat at Christy's table which had a concertina, sheet music, a 45 rpm record, and a tamborine. I thought that was a very clever way to personalize each table for guests.

We wound up the day by joining Lynn's husband for dinner, followed by a visit with Lynn at the care home. We expect to be up and gone early in the morning and home before dark.
