focusing on things seen...

...and unseen

for we both knew - there were fish - under the water

they were, however, being illusive to the great blue - yet he was beyond patient for me - as i got so very close to him - to capture some wonderful shots - of his gorgeous face - we seemed to simply bask in each others presence - enjoying the silence of the day - the fleeting moments of sunshine - until it was broken by a little girl - running towards me - screaming "yes, he's real - he's real" - to her family members behind her - then the blue did a slight glance of an eye in my direction - so slight i'd swear it almost didn't happen - those great wings lifted and he was off across the lake - leaving the little girl looking dejected and lost - i shrugged - because she wasn't quite close enough for me to explain - you don't scream within hearing of a blue heron - or really any wonderful wildlife - i tend to think that's a bit rude - but then - that's just my personal opinion - i want to respect them - nature - treat 'em with dignity - not everyone shares the same belief or thinking - i took my leave, continuing on - bumping into the blue further down - he was attempting to fish again

believe it or not - the little girl came up around the path a 2nd time - this time the whole family was together - and had 2 dogs with them - not ideal when approaching a heron - the girl appeared hopeful - however, the clinking tags from the dogs - didn't work for the bird - he took flight - this time i tried to explain to her how to approach - unfortunately, she did not appear receptive - it's too bad - i always hope children will be teachable - especially when young - will desire to learn - maybe it's only because her family was hurrying her along - i will hold on to that thought - be hopeful myself - in some small way my words had an impact - the next time she encounters the great blue - she will remember - and for her - it will be...

a

happy day.....
