Clyde FC Hall of Fame

Attended a very enjoyable dinner as a guest of Bobbie Gracey, a director with Clyde FC, to celebrate the entire 1966/67 Bully Wee team being inducted into the club's Hall of Fame.
I had been unaware of the scale of this team's achievements in what was a memorable year for Scottish football.
Celtic won every competition including the European Cup, the first British team to win the trophy. Rangers were narrowly defeated in the Cup Winners Cup final by Bayern Munich. Kilmarnock reached the semi finals of the Fairs Cup. Dundee also did well in Europe. And at Wembley Scotland thrashed England, the reigning World Champions, 3-2.
At home, Clyde FC, made up entirely of part-time players, finished 3rd in the league. And five weeks before the European. Final they took Celtic to a replay in the Scottish cup semi final, losing narrowly.
It was an astonishing achievement at a time when Scottish football was respected across the world.
Broadcaster Dougie Donnelly, a lifelong Billy Wee fan and former ball boy, compered the evening with style, humour and professionalism.
Gordon Sydney, the club historian, told the story of the season in great detail.
However, the highlight for me was when several players took to the stage to share their experiences.
They were clearly gifted footballers but they showed they were equally skilled story tellers. Fabulous tales from the era when Scottish football was at its strongest.
It was a real privilege to hear their story and to share the joy of their "induction" .
