Bus journey from hell (well, from Jodhpur really)

After arriving by plane to Jodphur from Udaipur we set out in an autorickshaw in search of the bus station where we could find our connecting bus to the ancient city of Jaisalmer. After a couple of failed attempts, we finally fell upon the bus station. Station is probably an overzealous description, what I mean is a gathering of buses, tightly crammed into an alley with a LOT of people milling around. We were instantly ambushed by people trying to sell us tickets, hotels, food and god knows what else.

With our sleeper bus ticket in hand, we clambered onto the bus and up onto our sleeper deck. Not the cleanest, not the most spacious, but we thought we could cope for the 6 hour journey. Then the clock struck 5pm and the workers began to pile on...OK, so we thought we'd seen full buses before in London but oh no no, we hadn't seen the half of it. The aisles were squished full, people crammed on top of each other on the seats, sitting on the sleeper carriages above the folk in the aisle. Picture all this, then as we thought it couldn't get any more stuffier/hectic/dangerous, someone in the aisle vomits...onto the sleeper opposite. Nice.

We did finally arrive at 11pm in one piece (the bus journey itself was extremely hair-raising) to Jaisalmer and went for a scrumptious bottomless thali at one of the local eateries. Lo and behold, with food in our bellies, the horrific journey was long forgotten!
