Working The Locks:

Wakened early; had toast and marmalade and we cast off. It was nice enough to sit up on the foredeck as we passed through a flight of locks.

A cup of coffee was very welcome while I sat reading and we took on water.

Every-one chose something different for lunch and I toddled off to bed for an hour as there didn’t seem much traffic on the canal. I suppose digging any canal must be hard work but this canal must have been even worse to excavate as it seems as though the walls each side are carved from solid rock.

There are two tiny black lambs acting giddy and racing up and down in the field. I notice their mother is acting more sedately.

I know I mentioned that with such an early holiday there wouldn’t be a great deal of colour in the countryside, but there’s more than I thought – the willow trees are particularly attractive.

This is what Kat & G really liked doing: jumping off the boat and running ahead to open the lock gates for us.There was this little roundhouse and I caught Kat and G the lock for my blip. Kat and G are managing the locks and I see them dancing along the towpath together. What energy young folks have!
