Architectural Dynamism (2014.100)

Looking to the North Bank of the Thames from atop a moving open-top bus on Tower Bridge. You can see the varying architectural styles, from the near-thousand-year-old Tower of London through to the still-under-construction "walkie talkie" building at 20 Fenchurch Street.

The iconoclastic names that Londoners adopt for their buildings are quite amusing. Also visible are "the cheese grater" (Leadenhall Building) and "the gherkin" (Swiss Re Building). These names become so popular that they replace the official building name in people's consciousness. In the case of The Gherkin, even the building owners have taken on the colloquial name, in preference to the original.
