President Michael D Higgins in Coventry

President Michael D Higgins came to town today at lunchtime. I almost decided to stay at the pub afterwards - hot Friday sunshine - but ended up going back to work. He decided to grab a pint of Guinness at the very same pub before heading back to Dublin, official state visit duties complete. Unfortunately, I had just left so missed the chance to have a chat.
Never thought I'd see the day when there were so many Irish flags in Coventry. Amazing. A very proud moment for an Irishman who has lived more of his life in Coventry than Ireland.
