At "Buns & Bread" night class tonight we were busy, though these didn't travel too well in the container strapped to the back of bike. Too many potholes later resulted in flattened icing!
We made half a dozen cup cakes each; icing them a while later, in three different ways; roasted vegetables; after learning how to sharpen knives properly; and puff-pastry for said roasted vegetables. The puff-pastry was admittedly of the ready-made variety. Few folk make it themselves these days, and I suspect we 'd still be there if we'd tried that!
The icing and colouring of the cup cakes was a laugh. After seeing the results of one lass that had a go at doing stripes, we all wished we'd tried that. Great fun. Not quite sure how I'll get the roasted veg thingy back home tomorrow though...
Much to my surprise, those cup cakes taste surprisingly good. Any bought ones I've had have always disappointed. Tasteless bun, with far too much and far too sweet a topping. A little vanilla essence appears to be the key. In both bun (cake if you must) and icing.
