Limehouse Basin, London
Named after the 'Lime Oasts' used by the potteries on this section of the north bank of the Thames, Limehouse grew to be the home of many ship building and maritime trades to support the mighty Pool of London docks.
Limehouse Basin was one of the first docks to close in the late 1960s and spent 30 years being redeveloped as part of the area of Docklands.
Inspired by the area, 'Limehouse Blues' is a jazz standard from the 1946 film Ziegfeld Follies starring Fred Astaire and Lucille Bremer.
