First Day
We got up this morning at an ungodly hour and headed to the train under the sea. The Little Misses were very taken with the idea of being able to look out of the window and see all the fishes but they coped with their disappointment well!
Their journey under the sea was spent mostly on our laps playing with every single lever and button in the car!
In a flash we were in France and heading down the motorway towards Paris. It took about two and a half hours - no traffic, no roadworks, bliss!
We checked in at the Davy Crockett Ranch and then went straight to Disneyland. The annual row about preferring to go swimming ensued from Miss E but she was persuaded....
We met Nana and Papa at the entrance - they've been in France for a few days already. Within minutes we had FastPassed Thunder Mountain - which means you get a time to go back later and don't have to queue - and were sat on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. It was quite surreal getting into it all so quickly!
We measured Miss L before we left and she was 101cm in her shoes. The height requirement for Thunder Mountain is 102cm. We had brought her chunky walking boots and just before it was time to go on we changed her into them and may have also stuffed a napkin or two under her heels. With bated breath we approached the entrance where they have a measuring stick - if your head doesn't touch it you can't go on.
We told Miss L to stand up nice and tall which she translated as standing up on tip toes and headbutted the bar of the measuring stick.
And we were through! Phew!
I would never take her on anything I thought was unsafe but we were talking less than a centimetre and it would have been so unfair for her to have to watch Miss E having all the fun and horrible for the rest of us to have to queue separately and go on separate rides.
But she got on - after being measured again at the end of the queue! - and she loved it! We all loved it!! The thrill of the runaway train!
So we went straight back on!
Then it was a whirl of Pirates of the Caribbean again, the teacups, Thunder Mountain again. This time being clocked as standing on tiptoes and having a funny battle of wills with the measuring lady! Dumbo - which saw me and my mum in an elephant together looking a tad out of place!! Giant lollipops, chips, ice creams, shopping with birthday money - Bambi for Miss E and a Mini Mouse figurine set for Miss L.
Then exhaustion, over excitement and tears and it was time to head back to the ranch.
And the kids were ready too!!
I had promised Miss E I'd take her swimming and have never felt less like doing anything in my life. I would have rather stuck pins in my eyes! But a promise is a promise and - extremely ungraciously - I took her to the pool. Mr K got out of it because Miss L was asleep before we left the Disney car park.
It was fine once I was in and we had a fun half hour in the lazy river, playing with floats, sliding down slides and, best of all, luxuriating in hot tubs.
Then it was back to bed. And fairly instantaneous sleep!
