Shakespeare's political tragedy, Coriolanus. ... Like to a lonely dragon, that his fen.
Or in this case a Lonely BlueTongue Lizard
rugosa: Bobtail Lizard or western shingleback – Western Australia
He has a triangular head and a bright blue tongue. Its short, stumpy tail is similar in shape to its head, he's about 40cm in length.
This possibly evolved as a defence mechanism against predators, and has led to the common name of "two-headed skink" or the blue tongue lizard or just plain old "Bobtail"
Its short tail also contains fat reserves, which the lizard lives upon during hibernation in winter.
Unlike many skinks, shinglebacks do not exhibit autotomy and cannot shed their tails.
He mainly travels alone, although he takes one partner for life who will find her way back to him in the mating season.
He was in the grass at the side of the bush land where I walked Milo this morning, he did look quite lonely.
