Snowflakes

While Spring breezes blow,
Cherry blossom snowflakes fall,
To settle gently.


A proper Spring day today, breezes, clouds and sunshine. Our beautiful cherry tree is now carpeting the lawn grass with blossom. Amazingly bluebells are also out .... April fools!

I was waiting for the water to heat up before having a shower this morning and was browsing through a book of Housman poems ... the first one in the book was this ...

Loveliest of trees, the cherry now
Is hung with bloom along the bough,
And stands about the woodland ride
Wearing white for Eastertide.

Now, of my threescore years and ten,
Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy springs a score,
It only leaves me fifty more.

And since to look at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow.

Apparently he once said of Tennyson that he would be the "one poet who a blind lover of the countryside would want to know by heart" ... a man after my own heart ...must read more Housman!
