Loch Awe

A travelling day today. I had the privilege today of spending time with an 86 year old gentleman who was recovering from treatment of an aggressive cancer affecting his liver. He was amazingly resilient and looking forward to driving to see his sister tomorrow -a two hour drive away. What struck me about him? He was independent , confident and optimistic. He has lived through very serious ill health over 5years and yet maintained his fitness . Most of all he has maintained mental resilience and showed no sign of passivity or regret .
He said that one thing he is most grateful for is that his wife died before she knew he was so ill and he doesn't need to worry about his illness upsetting her.
