Cherry Blossoms at the Jefferson Memorial

We arrived in Washington D.C. around 8 am this morning. Edward is here to give a paper at the STGlobal Graduate Student Conference and I came along to see the sights again and take in the National Cherry Blossom Festival. Today is one day together; then Edward is off to his conference for two days. We'll meet up afterwards for dinner. That's the plan, anyway.

So far we have taken a car, ferry, plane, bus, train and taxi to get here. We left home around 4:30 am and it is now around 9:30 am on a lovely spring morning. The birds, robins are singing and we have the day ahead of us to explore this lovely city. The cherry blossoms were not fully open yet but a few were and the tulip trees (magnolias) were open, just beautiful! This was a capture of Edward just outside of the Jefferson Memorial. You can faintly see the Washington Monument behind him (screened by the tree branches). The pink blossoms are late this year. The big show will be a few days after we leave. However, there are some open here and there - especially the white blossoms.

We went to the National Portrait Gallery and saw many wonderful artworks including the building itself! Very tired by the end of the day, will have more to report tomorrow!
