Erythronium californicum White Beauty. The flowers are pushing up through the surrounding growth, just ahead of their mottled leaves.

Erythroniums or Dogs Tooth Violets (the bulb looks like an over-sized canine fang) enjoy a semi-shaded position and prefer not to be too dry in summer.

Got my laptop back from the repair man today after something nasty attacked Windows. I've been using a very sloooow old one with one faulty key .... guess which letter ... very frustrating!!! - (Not o but the commonest letter :-( )
